Danson Tan Chamber

PRIVACY NOTICE

Effective Date: 01.06.2026 | Last Updated: [Date]

Danson Tan Chamber respects your right to privacy. This policy explains simply and plainly how we handle information when you interact with us. This Privacy Policy applies to all visitors of the Danson Tan Chamber website, whether you are based in Malaysia or abroad and are dealing with a legal matter in Malaysia. It covers information collected when you browse our website or contact us directly.

We do not collect any personal information unless you choose to interact with us. For example, by sending us a WhatsApp message or calling our number.

1. What Information We Collect

We collect two types of information, depending on how you use this website:

a) Automatically collected (when you visit the website)

When you browse our website, our analytics tool (Google Analytics) automatically collects general information such as:

  • The pages you visit and how long you spend on them
  • Your general location (country or city level — not your address)
  • The device and browser you are using
  • How you arrived at our website (e.g. a search engine)

This information does not identify you personally. It is used solely to understand how the website is being used so we can improve it.

b) Information you share when you contact us

When you contact us via WhatsApp or by calling our number, you may share:

  • Your name (if you provide it)
  • Your phone number (visible to us the moment you make contact)
  • Details about your legal situation, as you choose to share them

We only receive what you send or say. We do not ask for sensitive information at this initial stage, and we encourage you not to share case-specific details until a formal consultation has been arranged.

2. Why We Collect This Information

We collect and use information only for the following specific purposes:

  • To respond to your enquiry about our legal services
  • To arrange and confirm consultation appointments
  • To improve the content and usability of this website (using anonymised analytics data)
  • To carry out conflict-of-interest checks before formally taking on a client
  • To comply with our obligations under Malaysian law and Bar Council requirements

We do not use your information for marketing, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond the above.

3. WhatsApp and Third-Party Platforms

Our primary contact channel is WhatsApp Business. When you message us through WhatsApp, your message is transmitted via Meta’s platform (Meta Platforms, Inc.). We do not control how Meta processes data on its end. Please refer to WhatsApp’s own Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.

Important: Messaging us on WhatsApp does not constitute the formation of a lawyer-client relationship, and information shared at this stage is not covered by legal professional privilege. Please avoid sharing sensitive case details until a formal consultation has been confirmed.

Google Analytics, which powers our website statistics, is operated by Google LLC. Data collected through Google Analytics is processed on Google’s servers and is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy. We use anonymised, aggregated data only.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any other third party for commercial purposes.

4. We Will Not Contact You Unsolicited

We do not send follow-up messages to people who have enquired but not proceeded with a consultation. We will only contact you in direct response to a message or call you initiate.

If you become a client, all communication will take place through channels agreed upon during your consultation.

5. How Long We Keep Your Information

We apply a two-tier retention approach:

  • If you enquire but do not proceed as a client:
WhatsApp conversation records will be deleted within 90 days of your last message to us.
  • If you become a client:
Your information will be retained for 7 years from the conclusion of your matter, in accordance with Malaysian legal practice standards and applicable law.

Analytics data is retained in aggregated and anonymised form and does not identify individuals.

6. How We Protect Your Information

We take reasonable steps to safeguard the information you share with us, including limiting access to authorised personnel only and maintaining appropriate operational security within our firm.

However, no method of electronic communication or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we encourage you to exercise caution in the information you choose to share digitally.

7. Your Rights Under Malaysian Law

Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) of Malaysia, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Request a correction of any inaccurate or incomplete personal data
  • Withdraw consent to our processing of your personal data (where applicable)
  • Lodge a complaint with the relevant authority if you believe your rights have been breached

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us directly via WhatsApp or by calling our office. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe.

8. Cookies

This website uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — to support the operation of Google Analytics. These cookies collect anonymised data about site usage and do not identify you personally.

By continuing to use this website, you acknowledge the use of analytics cookies.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. When we do, the revised date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.

We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the website following any update constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised policy.
